How To Get More Pigment Out of Your Eyeshadow

Truth be told, it’s frustrating to shell out on a whole new eyeshadow palette and find the colours aren’t as pigmented as you wanted.

Is there anything you can do anything to salvage your purchase?

Yep.

In this guide, we’ll show you exactly how to make your eyeshadow pigment stronger and more vibrant.

How To Make Eyeshadow More Pigmented With Primer

The easiest way to make your eyeshadow more pigmented is with an eyeshadow primer.

Most primers are designed to intensify pigment and make your eyeshadow last all day without creasing.

‘First, start with using an eyeshadow primer that can intensify the shadow,’ explains Alphie Sadsad, makeup artist.

‘Follow by using a cream shadow that will then build up the tone and pigment of the eyeshadow. You [can] also use a creamy eyeliner pencil as an alternative to a cream. Apply where you desire the colour, blend, and apply powder on top and blend to finish.’

If you’re wondering how to make matte eyeshadow more pigmented, you can follow the same advice by using a primer first.

How To Make Eyeshadow More Pigmented Without Primer

Don’t have an eyeshadow primer at home?

You can try a setting spray to make eyeshadow more pigmented.

‘Dampening your brush with a setting spray [can make your eyeshadow] appear brighter and more intense than regular dry eyeshadow when applied,’ says Sadsad.

Psst… If you’re wondering how to mix eyeshadow pigments, try this trick...

‘Allow the shadow to dry before blending, [but try to] apply with precision and [use] a transition colour to help blend [the colours together].’

How To Apply Loose Pigment Eyeshadow

If you have an eyeshadow in loose pigment form, you can simply dampen your synthetic brush with a setting spray and use it to apply it onto your eyelids.

How To Apply Glitter Pigment Eyeshadow

You can follow similar advice for glitter pigment eyeshadow.

‘I love dampening my brush—especially with shimmers—to get that intensity, and usually it’s less messy,’ explains Sadsad.

The thing with loose pigment is that it can sometimes land in places you didn’t intend it to.

‘[The] best way to get glitter off unwanted areas is to use sticky tape and lightly tap off.’ Noted.
