The Bougie Night-Time Shower Routine Getting Me Through Winter

Bougie Nighttime Shower Routine Bougie Nighttime Shower Routine

Ahhh winter. Warm blankets, lots of Netflix and tea by the fireplace - fun.

Dryness, flaking and scaly legs? Not so fun.

The chilly weather, constant indoor heating and dry air brings all over body scaliness (and in my case, all over itchiness) to the fore, which is a vibe I no longer tolerate.

And I documented it on TikTok to prove it.

To combat dry, winter skin, having a bunch of nourishing and hydrating products to care for the skin on your body is essential.

I decided to up the ante on my winter shower routine and slather my body with some bougie (and hydrating) products.

My dehydrated, post-shower winter body has never been more grateful.

Elevate your winter bodycare regimen with these head to toe winter skin essentials.

1. Black Chicken Remedies Garshana Dry Body Brush.

  • Is made of bamboo and sisal (made from the Agave sisalana plant and is biodegradable).

  • Buffs away dead skin cells to reveal softer and healthier-looking skin.

  • Firms and tightens the skin and can help to prevent ingrown hairs.

  • Energises the body.

Watch Amelia Singson take you through dry brushing in the YouTube video below:

My Black Chicken Remedies Garshana Dry Body Brush Review:

Sweeping away dead skin cells by exfoliating your body with a dry brush is a great way to address parched skin.

Its benefits for invigorating winter skin include transforming rough and dry limbs to reveal softer, smoother skin which my scaly legs really appreciate.

I have used another dry brush before but rate this one for its easy to use handle.

2. L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil.

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil

What: L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil

A soothing, unisex shower oil that cleanses skin and leaves it feeling softer rather than stripped or irritated.

  • Enriched with almond oil, grapeseed oil, and nourishing lipids.

  • Transforms into a soft foam and is lightly fragranced.

  • Suitable for all skin types including those with sensitive skin.

My L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil Review:

I’m guilty of taking long, hot showers in winter, so I’m not sure why I act surprised when my body still feels tight and dry afterwards.

To ensure I’m not stripping my skin of its natural oils too much I like to switch to a shower oil rather than a shower gel.

I’ve recently hopped on the L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil train, and I'm never looking back.

I love treating my skin with this heavenly oil that always guarantees a relaxing shower experience.

3. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 Balm.

What: La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 Balm

A restorative, multi-repairing balm that's great for hydrating dry skin.

  • Is good for dry patches, chafing, cracked skin, scratches and rough skin.

  • Can be used on the body, face and lips.

  • Is paraben and artificial fragrance free and is suitable for babies, children and adults.

  • Key ingredients are madecassoside (for skin recovery), panthenol/vitamin B5 (soothes dry skin).

My La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 Balm Review:

If you experience any kind of dryness, the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 Balm should be a mainstay in your routine.

I love this product so much I wrote a whole article about it named, 'Why Everyone Should Own a Tube of This $18 Skin-Saving Cicaplast Balm'.

I like to layer this rich (bit not heavy or greasy) cream over my serums in winter to really lock in hydration.

This repairing balm also works wonders on my dry elbows, cracked lips and other uber dry patches that need a little love.

When my dad’s chin was having a hissy fit recently (he was experiencing alotta flaking) I gave him a tube of this stuff to try and it repaired his skin within a week.

And, it’s not that bougie. It’s only $18, so feel free to stock up.

4. Oribe Gold Lust All Over Oil.

Oribe Gold Lust All Over Oil Oribe Gold Lust All Over Oil

What: Oribe Gold Lust All Over Oil

A luxe, lightweight hair oil to protect and restore hair back to its prime.

  • A rich blend of jasmine, edelweiss flower, lychee, sandalwood, cassis, bergamot and argan extracts deeply condition, strengthen and smooth hair.

  • Ideal for dry, damaged and colour-treated hair.

  • Adds shine, detangles and reduces frizz.

  • Is free from sodium chloride, safe to use on colour and keratin treated hair.

  • Provides UV thermal protection to help prevent damage.

My Oribe Gold Lust All Over Oil Review:

One of the perils of winter is thirsty, straw-like strands.

Working a multi-purpose oil like this one through your hair and then applying any leftover residue on your face and body makes it worth the fancy price tag.

What I loved about this oil is that similarly to the Kérastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Hair Oil it makes hair softer, more manageable and gives it volume.

I loved this for my lifeless winter hair.

I also liked that after applying on damp hair then styling, it enhanced my natural, tousled waves rather than making my hair look too polished.

5. SALT BY HENDRIX Dream Body Oil.

SALT BY HENDRIX Dream Body Oil SALT BY HENDRIX Dream Body Oil

What: SALT BY HENDRIX Dream Body Oil 100ml

A hydrating body oil infused with botanical ingredients to give you soft skin.

  • Infused with a blend of nourishing oils such as grapeseed oil, apricot kernel oil, jojoba oil and sunflower seed oil.

  • Can be used in the bath or applied directly on cleansed, dry skin.

  • Contained in a sustainable glass bottle with real-life flowers.

  • Is cruelty, sulphate, mineral oil and paraben free, Australian made and vegan.

My SALT BY HENDRIX Dream Body Oil Review:

Supercharge your body moisturising routine by mixing a few drops of a body oil like this one with your normal moisturiser and apply to freshly dried (and still kinda damp) skin.

My body happily soaked in the extra hydration of this oil mixed with my body cream.

This oil is fast-absorbing, doesn't leave behind any greasy residue and makes skin feel instantly soft and supple.

6. CeraVe Moisturising Cream.

CeraVe Moisturising Cream CeraVe Moisturising Cream

What: CeraVe Moisturising Cream

A thick moisturiser to maintain skin’s softness and strengthen skin’s barrier.

  • Has a patented, 24-hour-long slow releasing hydration technology (to keep you soft and moisturised for longer).

  • Strengthens skin’s protective barrier through its 3 essential ceramides.

  • Also includes hyaluronic acid which is deeply hydrating and retains moisture.

  • Ideal for dry to very dry skin.

My CeraVe Moisturising Cream Review:

I usually reach for the CeraVe Daily Moisturising Lotion 236ml for daily use which is more of a lightweight lotion and just as hydrating but…

It’s great to alternate with something thicker like the CeraVe Moisturising Cream to lock in and boost moisture in winter.

It has a whipped texture, absorbs quickly into the skin and while not bougie, it’s an essential part of any winter body care routine thanks to its hero ingredient - ceramides.

7. CeraVe SA Renewing Foot Cream.

CeraVe SA Renewing Foot Cream CeraVe SA Renewing Foot Cream

What: CeraVe SA Renewing Foot Cream 88ml

A hydration-rich moisturiser ideal for those with dry, rough and bumpy feet.

  • Improves skin texture on feet and strengthens skin’s protective barrier.

  • Gently exfoliates dry and rough feet.

  • Contains 3 essential ceramides, salicylic acid (gently exfoliates the skin), hyaluronic acid (maintains moisture) and niacinamide (soothes skin).

My CeraVe SA Renewing Foot Cream Review:

I’m a dedicated member of the CeraVe club and have my cult faves but have yet to try the foot cream.

This is shocking seeing as I have very dry feet and the crispy cool winter always unearths my cracked heels. Not sexy.

I pop this on straight after the shower so it absorbs well and really gets into those cracks!

This AB review also got me on to this wondrous little tube:

This product has transformed my cracked dry feet back to their original baby soft feet condition. I can now wear sandals and not be self conscious of my cracked heels.” - Emily.

So, how did you like this bougie (but actually still affordable) shower routine?

These winter skin saviours were paramount in soothing my flakey, dry winter body.

Bye by itchy skin!
