6 Body Care Products That Will Save Your Dry Skin In Winter

best body products best body products

Things I yearn for winter… for Melbourne to be less cold, hydrated skin and for my scaly, Reptilian-like body to be nourished and less dry.

It’s the seasonal mistake most of us make.

Paying attention to our dry faces and manes but neglecting our poor limbs.

Maybe because when we put clothes on everyday, our flaky body skin that's crying for attention isn’t always top of mind.

It’s not until I hop out of a almost-melting-my-skin-off hot shower (also not a great move when your winter skin is already dry) that I see and feel the itchiness, dryness and sometimes flaky skin; realising I should have given the skin below my neck a-lot more TLC.

But looking after your dry body goes beyond just uber-hydrating moisturisers…

This is the best time to be incorporating things like body oils and body exfoliators into your winter skincare routine too (yes, there’s exfoliators for your body).

Used together, these products are a life raft for dry body skin.

While still very much in the throes of a moisture-zapping winter, this is your timely reminder to get back into your bodycare routine when parched body skin is coming to the fore.

Say “buh-bye” to unwanted Transepidermal Water Loss and offer dry skin some much-needed respite with some of the best body care products below.

1. CeraVe Daily Moisturising Lotion.

CeraVe Daily Moisturising Lotion CeraVe Daily Moisturising Lotion

Fast facts:

  • A ceramide-rich moisturiser that provides up to 24 hours hydration.

  • Is for dry to very dry skin.

  • Contains 3 essential ceramides, hyaluronic acid and a patented slow-releasing hydration technology (so you stay moisturised for longer).

  • Is alcohol and artificial fragrance free.

My mini CeraVe moisturising lotion review:

If you have scaly, flaking legs like I once had, the CeraVe body lotion will change your life.

My body owes much thanks to this body lotion that completely transformed my painfully dry body skin (mostly, my legs that were incredibly ashy and scaly).

I wrote about it in my CeraVe review and I will never stop singing its praises- it’s SO good (as is everything from CeraVe who make some of the best affordable skincare products) and is less than $20.

When I first used it the lightweight consistency threw me off but it’s so nourishing and the results were incredible.

I happily waved goodbye to those scaly legs once I started using this body cream.

This is the one I use daily after hopping out of the shower and also slather on every morning in winter.

Anything from the CeraVe range is great for drier skins (thanks to their ceramide-rich formulas).

While we're on the topic of best body care products, we can't forget about those dry feet - CeraVe SA Renewing Foot Cream 88ml to the rescue (trust us on this one).

If you’re looking for the best body care products and this isn’t in your cart, you’re doing bodycare wrong.

This one should be a bodycare staple for everyone!

2. La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume.

La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume

Fast facts:

  • A rich cream designed to replenish lipids in severely dry and irritated-prone skin.

  • Can be used by babies and children.

  • Hero ingredients include shea butter, niacinamide, glycerin and thermal spring water.

My mini La Roch- Posay lipikar baume review:

This is a body care product and cream I recently added to my staff order as I wanted to try something heavy-duty for my itchy skin.

As a new user of this cream I immediately loved it.

It absorbed quickly, didn't leave behind any greasy residue and was comforting on my arms and legs.

Though targeted to severely dry and irritated-prone skin, I wanted to try it not only because of the nourishing ingredients in the formula, I also wanted something to help with the itchiness I’m currently experiencing.

I rubbed some on the back of my thighs where the itchy feeling was a little more severe, jumped in bed and within 5 minutes the itchiness had subsided.

If you’re dealing with any irritation or severe dry skin, this body care cream may offer some respite!

3. L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil.

Fast facts:

  • A gentle, luxurious cleansing oil that feels like satin on the skin.

  • A great soothing alternative to harsh soaps and body washes in winter that dry out skin.

  • Is infused with almond oil and nourishing lipids.

  • Suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin.

My mini L'occitane almond shower oil review:

If I won a billion dollars, I would move to the Bahamas and just soak my body in this golden elixir all day every day.

I love this shower oil so much and understand why it’s reached cult status.

When I think about my ‘self-care’ routine this lush shower oil always comes to mind.

It gets the most use after I’ve had a stressful day. Just the sensorial experience alone puts me in a good mood and makes my body feel instantly more relaxed.

I prefer to sub this into my body care routine in winter when my normal body washes tend to exacerbate the dryness.

Add this to your everything shower routine asap friends!

And you want a more affordable cleansing oil, the Bioderma Atoderm Cleansing Oil 200ml is a good option too.

AB Customer Jemma says: "My friend got a sample and insisted that I try it. One use I am hooked. My skin has never felt so silky and smooth."

4. FIRST AID BEAUTY KP Bump Eraser with 10% AHA.

Fast facts:

  • A best-selling body scrub that helps smooth skin.

  • Combines both chemical and physical exfoliators to help give you glowier skin.

  • In a consumer perception test with 38 participants 95% reported it got rid of their dry, flaky skin after 10 days.

Apparently, the worst time of year for those with keratosis pilaris is winter.

Why?

Cold weather makes skin more dry which can irritate KP and those hot showers make things worse.

So incorporating body care products or body exfoliators that are formulated with ingredients like lactic acid, salicylic acid, glycolic acid and ceramides is a great idea.

The First Aid Beauty Bump eraser contains lactic and glycolic acids at a combined level of 10% to help decongest skin and help with texture, pumice buffing beads to buff away dead skin cells, vitamin E to condition the skin and bisabolol (a botanical extract) to help calm and soothe the skin.

AB customer Monica says:

“This stuff is amazing. Have tried so many scrubs and exfoliators to get rid of the bumps on my upper arms and this is the only product that actually does it. Arms feel so soft and smooth is crazy! It's a Godsend and I will be using this forever!"

5. SALT BY HENDRIX Dry Body Brush.

Fast facts:

  • Removes build up of dead skin cells.

  • Invigorates dull skin.

  • Can help prevent ingrown hairs.

  • Promotes circulation and increases blood flow.

Another effective way of addressing dry, flaky skin is dry brushing.

Dry brushing your body before you hop in the shower is a great body care practice if you have the time on a self-care Sunday.

It can also help smooth and exfoliate rough and dry skin as well as what it's mainly known for which is promoting lymphatic drainage and increasing blood circulation.

It’s also like a mini massage for your skin and who doesn’t want that?

6. Aspect Pigment Punch Body.

Fast facts:

  • A cosmeceutical body treatment to help with smoothing, hydrating and revealing even-looking skin.

  • Addresses and helps to brighten the look of dark spots and age spots.

  • Star ingredients include lactic acid, vitamin C, shea butter, glycerin and vitamin E.

The Aspect body pigment punch is a body cream/treatment that I have my eyes on for my next staff order.

I’ve heard great things and I love that it’s a cosmeceutical body product so I know it’s going to be a workhorse!

It’s formulated with a host of impressive ingredients including Tyrostat-11™ (Rumex Occidentalis and L-Ascorbic Acid) - A powerful complex including vitamin C to help illuminate and even out skin tone.

This is exactly what my bumpy and rough arms need! The daisy flower extract in this hardworking body care product also promises to illuminate the appearance of skin, and this is a big yes from me and my dry, dull limbs.

AB Customer SBP says:

"I love this cream so so much! Being someone who scars really easily this is my saviour for any sort of pigmentation on the body from scratches to mozzie bites. It does take some time but I started to see a difference after 3 applications!"
