Kevin Murphy’s New Hair Range Made Me Want to Blow Dry My Hair

Here’s the thing about me: I hate doing my hair. I even hate washing it because the very thought of then having to blow dry and style it makes me need a nap.

Ironically, I choose — and have chosen almost my entire life — to keep my fine hair long, so I’m lazy, and a masochist (what a combo!).

I spend a lot of time thinking about, and trialling ways to get it from wet to presentable in as little time as possible.

And if I can give it a bit of life and pump some volume into my fine strands — well that’s a bonus.

So when I saw that Australia's undisputed king of hair, Kevin Murphy, had released a range to take the pain out of blow drying, extend its life, and give you a bouncy, shiny, smooth blow wave I was IN.

What Are the New Kevin Murphy Blow Dry Products?

An extension of the brand's renowned BLOW.DRY collection, the range now includes a BLOW.DRY wash & rinse (shampoo and conditioner) to complete the heat-activated extenders and protectors as part of an all-round pre-styling regimen.

Here are some more fast facts:

  • Nourishing and protecting.

  • Designed for people who heat style their hair.

  • Uses long chain polymers to extend the life of your style.

  • Is a complete range of pre-styling products (shampoo and conditioner) and four styling sprays tailored to your ultimate blow dry.

  • Fights frizz and humidity.

  • Heat activated.

  • Contains thermal protectant (creatine) to protect from heat damage.

Is Kevin Murphy BLOW.DRY Range Good?

What makes the Kevin Murphy BLOW.DRY range so special?

Let’s talk tech specs for a second.

The range started out as styling products only; a collection of four heat activated style sprays tailored to your blow dry dreams.

Each have long chain polymers that work also to extend your blowdry’s life so all that hard work doesn’t go to waste.

Here’s a rundown:

Kevin.Murphy Ever Bounce 150ml - Was created for those who love the bouncy beach-girl vibes with phyto-nutrients to help the curly styles hold their shape. I use this one a lot, because I often add waves to give texture and volume to my fine hair.

Kevin.Murphy Ever Smooth - is, you guessed it, for those wanting a sleek style. Designed to combat frizz and keep hair soft, it brings in wood bark complex, lemon aspen, white cypress and blue cypress to get the job done.

Kevin.Murphy Ever Lift 150ml - is that one I’ve always used most: made for those who have their heart set on big volume. With technology that targets the roots to give lasting uplift, it gives lift without the crunchy feel of most volume products.

Kevin.Murphy Ever Thicken 150ml - Uses cotton (specifically cotton sprout complex which has organic cotton extract) to add substance to, and boost the individual strands so they appear fuller. Wild.

The Newcomers: BLOW.DRY Wash and Rinse.

Since Kevin Murphy does not do things by halves, it wasn’t enough to bring out excellent, style extending sprays – he needed to go one step further.

Enter: BLOW.DRY Wash and Rinse.

Designed especially for those who live by their hair dryer (and styling tools for that matter) it actually prepares the hair for styling, which also strengthens (they report 87% less breakage!) protects from humidity (for 24 hours!) and calms frizz.

The only thing it can’t do is literally style your hair for you (I wish!).

How does it do it? By strengthening, hydrating and repairing the hair (using a hydrolysed pea protein, rice proteins and anti-breakage technology) and building in heat protection too.

The shampoo (wash) is sulphate free and the conditioner (rinse) not only nourishes the hair, but also forms a protective layer to guard it against colour fade and environmental stress.

My Mini Kevin Murphy BLOW.DRY Reviews.

If the goal was to make the whole wash-and-blowdry experience less painful then, Kevin Murphy, JOB DONE.

Here’s the way I used it:

1. KEVIN.MURPHY BLOW.DRY WASH Shampoo.

Wet hair and apply this Kevin Murphy shampoo through scalp and mid lengths.

I like to shampoo in sections, not just at the crown (I do top, middle, underneath) to make sure I’m getting a good clean. Then rinse thoroughly.

I liked the scent on these too which I think is more unisex and less intense (maybe a bit herbal?)  than others in his range.

2. KEVIN.MURPHY BLOW.DRY RINSE Conditioner.

I apply this Kevin Murphy conditioner liberally, comb through with a wide tooth comb and leave it on for five minutes while I do the rest of my routine so it can really work its magic.

3. KEVIN.MURPHY Ever Lift.

Apply to freshly washed and towel dried hair.

As with all styling products, it works best when the hair is sectioned, sprayed then dried by section.

When I want volume I always blow dry upwards to encourage the root lift on my fine hair.

Final Verdict...

It’s a yes from me — for multiple reasons.

I love that it cuts out having to use a thermal protectant, I love that it made the blow dry part both faster and easier, and I would say I got at least an extra 1-2 days from my at-home blow dry, which is the real win for me (because it means I don’t have to do my hair).
