A Love Letter to Glasshouse Tahaa, Maybe the Greatest Candle of All Time

I’ve always been a lover of sweet fragrances.

It probably has some connection to my insanely strong sweet tooth.

When anything evenly remotely smells like caramel or butterscotch, I just follow the scent until it leads me to my destination.

Which is often either a dessert or a candle. 

That’s how I stumbled on one of Glasshouse’s most iconic fragrances, ‘A Tahaa Affair.’

I actually first smelt Glasshouse Tahaa in a Peter Alexander store years ago.

We all know the very recognisable scent of that store. The sweetness hits you as soon as you walk in.

Some might say it's overpoweringly sweet, however despite its divisiveness, the Glasshouse Tahaa candle is the most popular candle stocked at Adore Beauty.

What Is Glasshouse Tahaa?

Tahaa (full name A Tahaa Affair) is described as a vanilla caramel scent.

Although I have to say, it’s so much richer than that.

The key notes will better describe it: Pineapple, coconut, fruit, caramel and vanilla.

To me, Glasshouse Tahaa smells like you’ve just burnt caramel and butterscotch for a sickly sweet cocktail and it's wafted all through your house.

It's actually the perfect autumn/winter scent because it makes your house smell and feel really cosy.

Think of it as the warm feeling you get when you’ve been baking, but without the effort and the whole cleaning up part.

It must be said, the Glasshouse Tahaa scent can be quite strong and truly lasts, so it’s probably not the best scent for smaller spaces as it can be all-consuming.

And of course, it won't be your favourite if sweet scents are not your jam.

By now, we’re probably all aware that I love a sweet scent.

Honestly, give me anything coconut, vanilla or caramel, and I’ll want it in my house.

Glasshouse A TAHAA AFFAIR Candle 380g has all three.

The scent makes the house smell rich and warm when I get up at an ungodly hour just to have time to myself before the kids wake up.

To me, it smells like the calm before the storm.

I also love how Glasshouse candles are quite budget-friendly and last.

The scent of Tahaa in general will last in your house for hours - more so than any of the other fragrances I’ve tried.

So, how are they different?

Glasshouse Fragrances A TAHAA AFFAIR DEVOTION Collector Edition Candle - 380g is the new limited edition scent that's the same as the brand's A Tahaa Affair Devotion perfume.

The mix of fragrance notes is more complex than the original Tahaa:

• Top notes: Sweet sugar cane, coconut water, sea salt.

• Middle notes: Jasmine sambac, vanilla orchid, polynesian hibiscus, Tahitian foliage.

• Base notes: Caramel butterscotch, black amber, sun dried driftwood, cedarwood.

I personally find A Tahaa Affair Devotion saltier and crisper.

It's still sweet, not as sweet smelling as the OG candle.

You'll get the same vanilla and caramel, but the Tahaa Devotion is great if you want to sexy it up.

Die hard Tahaa groupies will love it.

Is Glasshouse Tahaa Good?

This is a love letter to Tahaa, so yes.

But Tahaa is a very cult-y scent, and so it's not for everyone.

If you have had a bad hangover from a big night on rum cocktails, I would avoid it as it may be triggering.

Caramel lovers, be warned:

Once you start burning Tahaa, it's very hard to stop.
