Shop Eye Serum and Eye Gels
You’ve got your head around eye creams - but now you’re reading/hearing/seeing all this palaver about eye serums. So what’s the go - are they the same thing? Different? Better? And which eye serum is for you? Read on, maestro.
What is eye serum?
An eye serum is a targeted treatment product specifically designed to be used around the eye area. You might know that the skin under and around our eyes is significantly thinner than the rest of the skin on our faces.
This means it's often one of the first areas to show the aging process, but it also can’t always handle thick, or heavy eye creams. Eye serums tend to have a thinner consistency and are often a great option for those who want a lightweight feel under their eyes.
Do eye serums really work?
Absolutely! But there are some things to know. Eye serums can’t fix genetics - if you’re someone who’s always had extremely dark under-eye areas, and eye serum won’t work overnight to make them disappear. However, an eye serum applied regularly, really can make a difference to those issues that pop up and down, so invest in an eye serum that targets your unique concerns, and apply regularly!
What does eye serum do?
Depends on what you want it to do! There are eye serums for puffiness, fine lines, and wrinkles, pigmentation - in fact, there is an eye serum for almost every under-eye concern! Match your eye serum to your under-eye concern, and you’re sure to find a new favourite.
Where to apply eye serum?
This will depend on which eye serum you pick, but generally speaking, you should apply eye serums to the orbital bone, starting in the inner bottom near your nose, and sweeping up in a ‘C’ movement under your brow bone.
No need to apply an eye serum right to the lash line - this might irritate your eyes - applying to the orbital bone will allow the product to naturally travel up as you go about your day (or night!).
Most eye serums shouldn’t be used on the eyelid itself unless directly stated on the product. Your eyelids are sensitive souls, and are a permeable membrane - so stick to applying your eye serum where you actually need it!
Can I use face serum under eyes?
This is a tough one - some gentler options might be totally fine under the eyes, but generally speaking, no - you shouldn’t use a face serum under the eyes. Active ingredients which might be completely fine on your cheeks or chin may be far too strong for the delicate eye area. So, unless your face serum says it is safe for use around the eye area, stick to a dedicated eye serum to keep those peepers clear, safe, and healthy!
