The key to faking a healthy-looking complexion—that is, one that boasts an even tone—is using the right foundation.
But what’s ‘right’? We mean a foundation that matches your skin colour exactly instead of looking like a mask.
‘The best way to find your perfect shade of foundation is to first identify your skin's undertone. Most foundations come in cool, neutral, or warm undertones,’ explains Lara Srokowski, director of artistry for Lancome Australia.
To find your undertone, she advises, ‘Look at the back of your wrists and distinguish the colour of your veins. If your veins appear more blue-like in colour, you are usually more of a cooler undertone. If they appear more green, you are usually a warmer undertone. And if they look in-between, a neutral is most likely the best option for you.
‘Once you have identified your undertone, choose three colours that are similar to your skin tone and swatch the shades on the side of the face close to your chin. The colour that disappears into the skin will be your perfect shade.’
Now that you’ve found your perfect shade of foundation, it’s actually a good idea to have more than one shade on hand: ‘one for your winter shade and one for summer,’ explains Srokowski.
‘The advantage to having two shades is you can customise your shade in between seasons and mix them together for your perfect shade match.’ Noted.
