What Brushes Should I Use When Applying Bronzer?

It's important to use the right tools when applying bronzer. Good bronzer brushes ensure an evenly distributed, beautifully blended finish. The type of bronzer brush you need depends on the formula of your bronzer as well as where you're placing the product.

Synthetic or natural brushes?

Generally, synthetic bronzer brushes work much better for cream products, whereas natural brushes are better for powders. This is because natural bronzer brushes absorb moisture from a cream, meaning the product won’t apply smoothly. Natural brushes also hold onto powders more effectively than synthetic brushes do.

If you use a gel or liquid bronzer, you can use your fingertips to apply it. The warmth of your hands will heat the product, making it easier to blend.

It's essential that you always use a clean brush for applying bronzer, or one that's been used solely for that product. Using your foundation, powder, or blusher brush will alter the bronzer's colour and finish.

Which brush should I use for bronzer application?

For applying a matte or sheer bronzer, we recommend you use a brush with a rounded head that covers a large surface area quickly. The Real Techniques Powder Brush  is perfect for even distribution and a smooth finish.

If you're using a shimmery bronzer or want to use a lighter hand, we recommend you use a sculpting brush such as the MAKE UP FOR EVER 2-Ended Sculpting Brush 158. You get the best of both worlds with this 2-in-1 brush. Use the slanted side to create shadow under the cheek bones, then use the dome side to highlight or color

Which brush should I use to blend my bronzer?

A kabuki brush with short, dense bristles is ideal for efficient blending. We recommend the Nude by Nature Kabuki Brush for the final step in your bronzing routine.

Alternatively, you can opt for a stippling brush to blend your bronzer, such as the Real Techniques Stippling Brush. The lighter bristle tips cause less disturbance to the makeup underneath. This model works well with both cream and powder products.

The appropriate tool can simplify bronzing and improve your results. Tailoring your brush to the type of bronzer you choose is the key to a seamless look.
