How A Former Beauty Director Preps For Their Own Wedding

Your wedding is arguably the most important day in your life, alongside having children (human or animal) and getting your pen license – which probably explains why Australia’s wedding industry is worth a whopping $4.3 billion. Yes, billion.

To complement the obscene amount of money we spend on weddings, many brides begin their skincare and haircare prep up to 12 months out from their big day. A recent bride herself, we asked Sheree Mutton, former Beauty and Health Director of The Australian Women’s Weekly magazine, to share her pre-wedding beauty prep:

“My advice? Start your beauty prep as early as possible to ensure radiant, glowing skin and luscious locks on your wedding day. For me, that was about five months out from the wedding.”

Skincare:

“I began by using the Clarins Extra-Firming Mask twice a week and my favourite serum, the Jurlique Rose Moisture Plus Balancing Serum daily to keep my skin hydrated and looking its best. The serum contains rich botanicals and hydrates the skin so it’s perfect for dry skin.

For those under eye bags, I used the philosophy renewed hope in a jar eye (Oprah is a fan of the brand too!) and for the lips, the Elizabeth Arden Advanced Lip Fix Cream.

My skin responded well to the Alpha-H Micro Cleanse Super Scrub, which I used most days to remove dead skin cells and unblock pores. I like to call it a ‘facial in a tube’ – it’s a supercharged exfoliant that leaves the skin looking instantly fresher and brighter.”

Body:

It’s important not to just focus on the face though – the body and hair need attention too. To help my skin look and feel more firm, smooth and supple, I lathered on the Clarins Body Shaping Cream. It reduces any puffiness and is a great overall moisturiser.

Haircare:

My hair was the biggest challenge when it came to my wedding prep. It’s not coloured so it takes a lot of effort to keep it looking styled for hours on end if it’s out. I wanted a classic, elegant hairstyle for my wedding day so I enlisted the help of Nicola Johnson, who managed to create a beautiful Hollywood wave.

To add extra volume, I spritzed my hair with the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray the night before the wedding. It smells amazing and lifts the hair, helping waves and curls stay put for longer so it was a good base for Nicola to work with.

I adore the entire Oribe range so to maintain healthy and hydrated locks in the months before, I used the Oribe Shampoo and Conditioner for Magnificent Volume three times a week. My regular hairdresser, Anthony Nader first introduced me to the brand and I’ve never looked back.

Expert Tip:

Don’t try any new skincare products or change your routine in the weeks before your wedding. You risk having a reaction to new products, or a breakout that may not clear up in time.
